What’s New With the Lehigh Valley Athletic Club?

6/22/09, Bethlehem, PA: The Club’s Board of Directors is pleased to report that 2008 national champion Keith Gavin will relocate to the Lehigh Valley in late June to continue working on his dream to make the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team. He’ll do so as a Club Coach for the LVAC, after entertaining interest from club operations at both Iowa State and Ohio State.

In addition to moving to Bethlehem, Keith will receive travel support to train in Colorado Springs and at major national and international competitions. Jason Kutz remains Volunteer Coach for the Lehigh Valley Athletic Club, with Gavin helping with local clinics, plus conducting private workouts with regional wrestlers.

Keith placed 2nd at the 2009 U.S. National Open Challenge Tournament and was 2-2 at the 2009 World Team Trials at his first tourney entry at his new weight of 185/84.

At Pitt, Gavin was 120-37 and finished sixth on their all-time win list, with a superb 61-4 mark in his final two years, including 33-0 as a senior. As a junior, he was an NCAA runner-up to Missouri's Ben Askren; a year later, Gavin claimed his NCAA title win over Michigan's Steve Luke (the '09 champ).

He’s Pitt’s first NCAA Champion since Pat Santoro in 1989 (and ’88). Each was coached by Panther Head Coach, Rande Stottlemyer, a former 3-time Pitt All-American.
